MIXED MEDIA

Have you ever committed a crime? What was it?

Under the long-established Currency Ordinance of Hong Kong, coins and paper notes are public property belonging to the government. Destroying them is vandalism, but what is the penalty? It is difficult to answer, because no one has ever been prosecuted for it. No one knows if the Ordinance is really in effect.

"Destruction" is damage or vandalism on a physical object or symbol, whether intentionally, accidentally, or in an attempt to mislead. In modern society, such destructive behavior is not allowed.

Coins, as the medium of my work, have lost their monetary value due to the damage. On the other hand, the coins are converted from "public" to "private" property during the process of destruction. They become accessories that link with the human body and form new relationships with people. The value of the coins has also been altered.

I hope the works can inspire you to think about the meaning of "destruction". Whenever something is damaged, what do we gain from the loss? And what do we lose from the gain?
